Encyclopedia can rarely walk around the neighborhood without being accosted by someone needing his help solving a crime. One day, he was out doing his thing when Tim Gomez stopped him. We’ve seen Tim before. He’s the one who told the very fishy story about his baseball-playing uncle being framed for a bank robbery in Mexico. This time around, Tim was standing outside of the post office, holding an empty box and some wrapping paper. He flagged Encyclopedia down and explained that Bugs had just stolen his piñata.
His Aunt Maria had sent Tim a piñata full of candy, but since postage was due, he had to go to the post office to pick it up. I’m going to point out that Aunt Maria made her 10-year-old nephew pay international postage for his own present.
When Tim opened the box outside of the post office, Bugs stole the piñata and ran across the street. That’s when Encyclopedia showed up. Bugs was so brazen that he was still across the street, playing with the piñata. I’m not sure what he was doing, because you can’t really do much with a piñata aside from hanging it up or breaking it open for its candy.
When Encyclopedia heard the story, he realized that he was going to have a tough case. They sold piñatas at Hector’s Department Store that looked very similar to the one Bugs was holding. He figured that if he approached Bugs about the piñata, he’d claim that he had just bought it.
Encyclopedia confronted Bugs, and that’s exactly what happened; he said he had just bought it from the department store minutes earlier. Bugs also suggested that someone would go through the trouble of mailing Tim an empty box.
So what could Encyclopedia do? He couldn’t prove anything. Except, no, he totally could.
First off, the piñata Bugs was holding was full of candy. If he had just bought it minutes earlier, it would have been empty. Also, the box was covered with postage stamps, even though postage was due. There was too much postage for it to be an empty box. It was, however, exactly the exact amount necessary for the full piñata that Bugs was holding. Encyclopedia asked Bugs if he was willing to go to the post office to weigh the piñata to prove that it was actually his. Bugs declined and gave the piñata back to Tim.
Why is Bugs such an asshole?
